In 2005 Health Care Ministry began with the approval of His Grace, Archbishop Drexel Gomez and the Clergy Coordinator of Diocese 2000 & Beyond, Rev. Angela Palacious. The Pastoral Care Ministries Coordinator, Mrs. Cecilia Askew a Pastoral Counsellor & Spiritual Director with the assistance of Mrs. Lily Mae Major, a Retired Registered Nurse and [former lecturer at the Bahamas School of Nursing] together designed a course for the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and in particular the Anglican Diocese of The Bahamas.

The ministry has been designed to be inclusive of all persons engaged in "caring ministry".
The initial course was attended by an ecumenical group of trained nurses, and other lay professionals involved in pastoral care, prayer counselling, social outreach and visitation ministries.
